I work in South Dakota and often travel across the state. Most of my work is conducted south of Interstate 90.
Here is some info about the places where I travel.
Rapid City, South Dakota
Located to the east of the Black Hills. For a multi-day visit I would recommend touring the Badlands and the Pine Ridge Indian reservation. Lodging is available nearby at Lakota Ranch Resport, or the Odd Duck Inn.
Reasons to visit: Sioux Pottery, Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Piya Wiconi, South Dakota
Piya Wiconi is the name of the location where Oglala Lakota College is headquartered. Located in the countryside near Kyle, South Dakota, there is literally prairie landscape as far as the eye can see.
Reasons to visit: Oglala Lakota College Bookstore, Lakota Center for Science and Technology.
Mission, South Dakota
Reasons to visit: Sinte Gleska University
Vermillion, South Dakota
A college town with lots of scenic neighborhoods. The university campus is very scenic and has several gardens. With the recent addition of a bridge (oh and Wal-Mart) Vermillion now serves a greater portion of southeastern South Dakota.
Reasons to visit: Oscar Howe Gallery, Shrine to Music Museum, Dakota Dome, University of South Dakota.
